I’m Brook Bellows (She/They), currently licensed as Marvin Bellows with the State of Texas as a Licensed Professional Counselor and have a Masters of Science in Rehabilitation Counseling From the University of North Texas.
I believe that my clients bring a deep well of knowledge, wisdom, and passion with them that needs to be uncovered and honed with new skills to help them live fuller, happier lives. One of the best things about working with people is discovering those passions and using them to help with the therapeutic process.
With my personal background as a queer-identifying nerd, I find it natural to integrate themes from geek and queer culture into therapy when it will be beneficial for my clients, using therapeutic metaphors from games, comics, anime, and books as well as identifying community support from the sub-cultures my clients identify with and the skills to help them engage in a healthy way.
The approaches that I use include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Adlerian Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Narrative Therapy and inform these approaches with Intersectional Feminist and Queer Theories.
I have provided clinical supervision as part of my employment and during coursework for a PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision that I recently put on hold to provide additional support for my child. Like my work as a therapist, my supervision style is both collaborative and supportive, working with my supervisees to ensure that they attain the core skills that they need to be high quality therapists as well as building a personal approach to counseling that guide them as they progress through supervision and their career.
